Last week Counterpoints hosted a small gathering of artists, researchers and other practitioners where l had the opportunity to share about my work.
How did this come about?
Towards the end of 2023 I felt a deep need to share my work with a group of people (curators, producers, brand experts, artists, organisers, researchers, etc)
I was seeking feedback, direction and potential collaborations.
I shared these thoughts with Counterpoints, with whom I have collaborated in various ways for a number of years, and they organised the gathering at their offices in London.
Below are a few words from me, reflecting and highlighting the power of togetherness, vulnerability, and solidarity.
Before the gathering,
Thoughts like:
‘What am l doing?’
‘Why did l ask for this?’
Crossed my mind. I felt somewhat, vulnerable.
After and during the gathering. My mind was buzzing, (still is…!)
With thoughts like
‘Wow, this is deeply moving! This amazing group of minds has taken time out to
generously share their thoughts.’
My Reflections:
It takes a village
It takes a village
To slay the dragon
The elephant in the room
It takes a village
To agitate the slumbering
Nitpick the elephant within
It took a village
To remind me of what l have in my hands
Conclusion:
We need more spaces like these for creatives. To intentionally gather, press pause, intentionally listen and generously remind each other of what we have in our hands.
My name is Laura Nyahuye, I am a Creative Visionary.
