The range of Counterpoints Arts’ work has grown considerably since its foundation in 2012 and we are looking to strengthen our Board by bringing in new Trustees with lived experience of migration or displacement, and with skills and experience that will complement those of existing Board members. We welcome applicants who have not been on a board before and we are committed to supporting all new board members to develop their skills and experience.

Counterpoints Arts aims to attract and retain talented people from all backgrounds to its Trustee Board. In this context, we invite applications from migrant and refugee communities and Black, Asian, ethnic minority, and disabled applicants, since these groups are currently underrepresented in the cultural sector. We invite applications from anyone aged 18+.

Requirements:

  • A commitment to the aims and overall mission of Counterpoints Arts
  • Lived experience of migration or displacement and experience of working with refugee and migrant communities and/or artists
  • A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the Board and to advocate for Counterpoints Arts’ vision and programme
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
  • An openness to share with Counterpoints Arts your extended expertise pathways and networks
  • An ability to work effectively as a member of a Board and to take decisions for the overall good of Counterpoints Arts

Any of these additional skills and experience would be desirable:

  • Knowledge of the arts industry with experience of arts sector management or a track record of commissioning in an arts institution
  • Ability to access new sources of funding, in particular from high-value individual donors or the corporate sector
  • Knowledge of the Educational Field
  • Experience of managing charity finances and accounting
  • An understanding of charity regulations and requirements, including experience of risk management, operations, IT and human resources
  • Representing Counterpoints Arts at events such as festivals, exhibitions and retreats, both in-person and online

Time Commitment

The Trustee Board meets once each quarter for an average of 2 hours. Trustees are then required to commit the time necessary to follow up on agreed action points. In addition, Counterpoints Arts may organise more structured meetings to discuss specific matters and strategy directly. Trustees are invited to attend the events organised by Counterpoints Arts.

If you have any questions or wish to express your interest in this opportunity, please send your CV, a letter of interest and a completed Equality and Diversity Form by email to annie@counterpoints.org.uk with ‘Trustee Application’ as the subject, by Friday 4th March 2022.
