Art Reach and Counterpoints Arts are collaborating on an open call for two new outdoor art commissions for our programmes in 2023 on the theme of “Climate Justice and Displacement”.
The call out is open to any artist or collective, working in any medium, to produce new work relevant to the theme that can be presented in outdoor spaces.
We are particularly interested to see proposals from artists with lived experience of migration and displacement and from people living or working in the areas the festivals will take place in 2023: the South West of England and East Midlands/Leicester.
Climate Justice addresses past and rising inequalities worsened by climate change and environmental breakdown that are predominantly and unjustly affecting the countries and communities of the Global Majority, as well as the most vulnerable living in the developed countries such as the UK. It also addresses the ongoing legacies of colonialism, capitalism and systemic inequalities. We relate Climate Justice to human rights, to the rights of people to move and seek safety. We also relate it to racial justice. To land, water and food justice. To rights of nature.
As part of our values we believe that while displacement can be traumatic it can also be a transformative experience, and we are interested to see this reflected in proposals.
Details and how to apply
Work should be new, but can be a development of an existing project or prototype.
A fee of £7500 will be paid per commission, for work to be presented at Journeys Festival International in Leicester (July 2023) and Platforma 7 in the South West of England (October 2023). A budget for materials and other costs will be agreed with the artists before the commissions are confirmed.
Artists should submit via this online form
Deadline: 5.30pm 17 March 2023.
