How often does this happen? The Foundation For Sports and the Arts, which recently closed down, decided that one of their last parting shots would be to award Counterpoints Arts with a generous grant. They did it in order to commemorate the work of their trustee, late Sir Christopher Chataway, who was a world-class athlete, influential MP and journalist and early pioneer of refugee rights in the UK. As the Foundation explained:
“The Trustees of The Foundation for Sport and the Arts are delighted to award one of our final grants to Counterpoints Arts. In doing so, we are celebrating the involvement of Sir Christopher Chataway, whose intelligence, perception and wry sense of humour graced the workings of the Foundation from its inception in 1991 until his death earlier in 2014. Lady Chataway and the Chataway family graciously agreed to help us select a fitting tribute to his involvement with us, and we know that the award to Counterpoints Arts would have pleased him immensely.”
