SUMMARY:One Song at Fabrica
DESCRIPTION:One Song is an audio-visual installation and community archive by artist Kadir Karababa. The exhibition explores how music carries memory\, identity and a sense of home across borders.\nBegun in 2022\, this touring project comes to Fabrica in Brighton\, bringing together songs and stories contributed by women with personal experience of migration or seeking sanctuary. Built through participation and shared experience\, this iteration of the exhibition was developed with members of the Brighton community. \nEach participant is invited to share a song that transports them to the place they first called home. These songs form the heart of the installation\, bringing together individual memories to create a collective portrait of migration\, belonging and home. \nThe project is inspired by the artist’s own family history of migration from South East Turkey to London\, and by an interest in how songs travel across borders while remaining rooted in the places where they were first sung. \nThe songs featured in this exhibition are deeply personal\, connected to family\, language and everyday life\, and carried across time and distance. For many contributors\, singing becomes a way of reconnecting with places\, people and experiences that are no longer physically present. \nTogether\, these voices create a shared space for listening and reflection. While each story remains unique\, common themes of movement\, belonging\, loss and connection emerge through the music. \nPerformed in their original languages and accompanied by English subtitles\, the songs speak beyond translation. Through voice\, melody and emotion\, visitors are invited to connect with the lived experiences at the heart of the exhibition\, engaging not only with the lyrics but with the universal feelings carried within the music. \nBy bringing these stories together\, One Song creates space for voices that are often unheard\, offering a powerful way of understanding migration through memory\, music and lived experience. \nOne Song was originally commissioned by Counterpoints Arts. This iteration has been supported by Arts Council England and Counterpoints Arts. To view the archive of songs that make up One Song and to read more about work visit onesong.co.uk \nFree entry\, no booking required \nOpening Times:\nTuesdays 1 – 5pm\nWednesday – Sunday 12 – 6pm\n(closed Mondays) \nAbout The Artist \nKadir Karababa is a British-Turkish artist whose practice explores identity\, memory and belonging through personal and collective experience. Working across painting\, sculpture\, installation and socially engaged practice\, his work draws on his lived experience as a working-class\, queer artist navigating multiple identities. \nOne Song website

SUMMARY:Reimagining Democracy - exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Counterpoints Arts has partnered with Fine Acts and One World or None (OWoN) to commission ten new artworks that reimagine democracy for the 21st century.\nProduced during an intensive 48 hours creative bootcamp\, called SPRINTS\, the completed illustrations will be available for movements\, activists and individuals to use for non-commercial purposes under an open license\, and become part of TheGreats.co – the largest global platform for free social-impact visuals.  \nThe commissioned digital artworks on the theme ‘Reimagining Democracy’ will also be presented at a pop-up exhibition at Kensington Central Library in London from 15-30 October. \nImage: Build Trust by Lily Kong\, FineActs SPRINTS London\, 2026 \nReimagining Democracy\n\nAt a time of profound uncertainty and transformation around the world when democracy is being tested\, challenged\, and in many cases\, eroded\, this SPRINTS series is not about illustrating democracy as it is – but about imagining what it could become. The artists\, who are all UK-based but hail from a range of countries from Palestine to Ukraine\, will take inspiration from powerful democratic practices that use the talents\, judgment\, and capabilities of ordinary people – such as citizens assemblies\, participatory budgeting\, digital decision-making platforms\, and indigenous governance models – to generate powerful visual narratives that actively imagine and propose new models of deliberative participatory democracy.  \nThe London SPRINTS is part of a global initiative spanning more than 10 countries around the globe. Each piece contributes to a growing global commons of creative resources that strengthens the capacity of organisations and movements\, and expands the role of artists as active participants in social change.  \n \nReimagining Democracy Exhibition\nDates: 15 – 30 October 2026\nOpening Hours: Open Monday\, Tuesday: 9.30am to 8pm\, Wednesday 10am – 5pm\, Thursday 9.30am – 5pm\, Friday and Saturday 9:30am – 5pm. SUMMARY:The Shape of an Idea with Roua Horanieh
DESCRIPTION:Break through writing blocks with a playful\, hands-on approach to storytelling with this friendly\, creative workshop at the National Centre for Writing (NCW) in Norwich. Presented as part of Roua’s residency at NCW\, in partnership with Counterpoints.\nFeeling stuck in a writing project? In this practical and imaginative workshop\, writer and artist Roua Horanieh will guide you through simple making and drawing exercises designed to help you visualise ideas\, overcome creative blocks\, and discover new directions for your work. \nMaking something with our hands can often be helpful to think creatively. \nWhen we’re making something beautiful\, meaningful\, or simply fun\, we can lightly hold an idea in our minds and let it gently look for places to wander into. Places that can sometimes surprise us and that are sure to spark our curiosity and fuel our imagination. \nRoua Horanieh has years of experience working in architecture and collaborating with art practices. She regularly draws and makes models when developing her writing projects. \nSometimes the models and drawings are ways to explore the actual structure of an essay\, a scene or a story\, but sometimes they are just a development tool\, a way to think about the elements of a text\, the characters\, the locations\, the themes\, the action taking place\, the tension in the narrative\, the dramatic questions. \nFull details and booking from the National Centre for Writing
