June 7th saw residents of Canalside Estates in Hackney being photographed by photographer Marcia Chandra, and interviewed by Dijana Rakovic and Áine O’Brien (Counterpoints Arts), and Justin O’Shaughnessy (Shoreditch Trust).

Local residents, housing association reps, as well as community workers from Youth of Haggerston were asked to reflect on living and working on the Canalside Estates. Portraits were hung on a makeshift ‘exhibition’ wall on the street, creating a dynamic focal point for collective conversation and viewing.

By the end of the afternoon, some rich conversations had been captured with multi-generation family members, recent migrants and even former residents who regularly return to Canalside telling us about their life on the estates. The stories and portraits can be seen on the project’s website www.humansofcanalside.org
