Bringing people together from across the UK and the world, Refugee Week 2020 was a festival ‘re-imagined’.
Refugee Week is an annual festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees.
Kicking off just a few months after Covid-19 broke out in the UK, Refugee Week 2020 took place as a digital festival for the first time, 15-21 June.
Despite the rapid move online and all the challenges that followed lockdown, over 350 Refugee Week events and activities were organised by groups and organisations across the UK, a vivid testament to the passion, commitment and responsiveness of the Refugee Week partnership and network.
Counterpoints Arts is proud to coordinate Refugee Week, providing support and resources for the hundreds of organisations and individuals in the Refugee Week network, as well as producing our own programme of Refugee Week initiatives. Counterpoints Arts’ Refugee Week 2020 programme included comedy from No Direction Home, a new track celebrating diversity in football by Lady Leshurr, a digital anthology on the theme of ‘Imagine’ and musical commissions from singer Nyaruach and grime MC Tardast.
