Counterpoints Arts and Dartington Arts invite applications for a residency at the Dartington Hall Trust for an artist of any discipline eager to explore the role of public art in relation to pop culture and human migration/displacement.

We are particularly interested in hearing from poets, spoken word artists and visual artists keen to respond to the themes of human migration/displacement.

Your residency will take place from 9 – 19 October 2018 on the Dartington Hall Estate, a 1200-acre medieval estate in South Devon near the town of Totnes. The residency corresponds in part to our bi-annual retreat at Dartington that will bring together individuals from the worlds of the visual and performing arts, broadcast media, entertainment, advertising, fashion, social media, philanthropy, charity and policy sectors in October of this year. Accommodation and subsistence will be provided along with a fee of £1,500.

The aim of this cross-sector gathering is to engage with the field of popular culture to imaginatively re-shape narratives around migration and global displacement.

The retreat takes place at Dartington from 17 – 19 October 2018, and the artist in residence is expected to share their work-in-progress as part of the culmination of the retreat. This may be in the form of an open studio or reading.

We are particularly interested in hearing from artists with direct experience of human migration/displacement. Dartington is a welcoming, peaceful space for reflective work and emergent ideas. You will be supported by the arts team during your time in Totnes.

To apply, please send a document outlining your proposal for residency, with examples of your recent work or links to websites, if available.

Applications to be submitted to amy.bere@dartington.org or by post to The Barn, Dartington Hall Trust, Dartington, Totnes, Devon, TQ9 6EL by Monday 17 September 12noon.
