‘Using Film to Reach Beyond the Choir’ – an interesting interview with Ellen Schneider, Director of AV Story Lab at Active Voice, San Francisco. Here Ellen talks to the Communications Network in the US, exploring why it’s important to harness good storytelling and character-driven films to change the public discussion on immigration referring to the recent documentary ’Documented’ by Jose Antonio Vargas.
The debates and local issues on the ground are certainly different in the US yet there are interesting parallels to mine for filmmakers, advocates and social campaigners – particularly those who wish to cut through the policy rhetoric and get to the everyday, hard-felt issues being experienced at the coalface by a whole range of communities.
